Adult

Before your Procedure

  • A member of our Team will contact you prior to your procedure to go over your arrival time, review your pre-operative instructions and answer any questions you may have.
  • Please make sure that you have completed all paperwork that was given to you by your physician.
  • Report Any changes in your health to your surgeon prior to your day of surgery.
  • Please follow all Pre-op instructions that have been given to you.

Please note that your arrival times could be as much as 1 ½ – 2 hours prior to your surgery.

Day of Procedure

  • You will be greeted by a member of our staff to start the registration process.

What to Bring the Day of the Procedure

  • Photo ID
  • Current Insurance card
  • List of medications that you are currently taking
  • List of allergies
  • Blue bag with your prescribed eye drops and sunglasses provided (cataract patients)

Please note:

  • A responsible party that is at least 18 years old is required to drive you home.
  • You will not be permitted to take public transportation home unaccompanied.
  • Once you’re registered, one of our nurses will guide you to our Pre-operative area and begin to take your vital signs, start an IV if needed, and start any pre-operative medications that may be required.
  • You will meet one of our members of our Anesthesia team who will discuss your care.

Different types of Anesthesia:

  • General
  • Mac
  • Local sedation
  • Your surgeon will greet you in the pre-operative area to mark your surgical site, go over your procedure and answer any questions that you may have.
  • One of our nurses from the OR will greet you and take you back to the operating room where you will meet the rest of your surgical team.
  • At the conclusion of your procedure, you will enter our recovery area. The amount of recovery time varies for each procedure and patient.

You will be given your discharge instructions and prescription information for any medication to be taken during your post-operative care.

After the Procedure

One of our staff members will call you within 72 business hours to assure that you are doing well and answer any questions that you may have.

Pediatric

Before your Procedure

A member of our Team will contact you prior to your child’s procedure to go over your arrival time, review your pre-operative instructions and answer any questions you may have.

  • Please note that your arrival times could be as much as 1 hour prior to your surgery.
  • Report any changes in your childs health to their surgeon prior to their day of surgery.
  • Please follow all Pre-op instructions that have been given to you.

Day of Procedure

You and your child will be greeted by a member of our staff to start the registration process.

  • All minors MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the pre-op area and remain in the facility for the duration of the procedure.

What to Bring the Day of the Procedure

  • List of allergies
  • Parent Identification
  • Favorite toy/stuffed animal
  • Once you’re registered, one of our nurses will guide you to our Pre-operative area and begin to take vital signs, start an IV if needed, and start any pre-operative medications that may be required.
  • You will meet one of our members of our Anesthesia team who will discuss your childs care.

Once your child is in recovery and awake, you will be brought to their bedside and given discharge instructions and prescription information for any medication to be taken during your post-operative recovery.

After the Procedure

One of our staff members will call you within 72 business hours to assure that your child is doing well and answer any questions that you may have.

Pennsylvania Eye & Ear Surgery Center utilizes the following laboratories for any specimens your physician may deem necessary to be sent out for testing:

  • Tower Health
  • Quest
  • LabCorp
  • HealthNet


Please be aware: It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company and inform the Surgery Center if
you are required to use a different laboratory than listed above.  You can contact your insurance company via
the Member Services phone number listed on the back side of your insurance card. If your insurance requires a
specific laboratory, and we are unaware, this may result in a higher out of pocket cost for you the patient.

LASIK

Before your Procedure

You will have a preoperative appointment where the LASIK coordinator will review information and medications to be taken before your procedure.

  • Shower prior to your appointment
  • Eat a normal meal; no alcohol
  • Arrange for a driver to bring you to and from your laser appointment
  • No Hairspray, mousse, gel, perfumes, cologne or scented body lotions
  • No eye or Facial Make-up
  • No earrings or facial Jewelry

Day of Procedure

  • You may eat and drink before your procedure.
  • Plan to be at the surgery center for approximately 2 hours.
  • When you arrive to the surgery center staff will take additional images of you eyes prior to the procedure.
  • You will be offered valium prior to your procedure. All patients who choose to take the offered
    valium are required to have a driver to take them home.
  • A kit will be given to you on the day of your procedure containing eye drops and sunglasses
  • Please plan to arrive at the Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center at the assigned time
  • Expect to stay at the Center for approximately 90 minutes
  • Remember to discontinue your soft contact lenses at least 14 days prior to your scheduled procedure date. Patients wearing rigid, gas permeable contact lenses should discontinue their lenses as directed by their physician.

Report any changes in your health to your surgeon prior to your day of surgery.
